Bob Marshall Wilderness, Montana

I was away all week in Montana with my good friend, Ulf. We went to go fly-fish, see his son and explore the wilderness of Montana. This is a beautiful area below the Hungry Horse Reservoir. Adam, Ulf's son, lives in the Whitefish area. His sister Sara also came in from San Francisco.  We camped, hiked, fished for cuttys, bulls and graylings, drank, cooked, laughed a lot and had just a glorious time.

Andrew Glover Youth Program

Yesterday I photographed nine teens from the lower east side near the youth center on Ave B.

It was hot on the street but they were cool. I have been working with the Glover organization for many years. I believe that they make a profound difference in the youth of our city.

Heading home later than expected I had to stop my bike in the bike lane and grab this image.
Just two days shy of being full. Enjoy the full moon on Saturday the 26th.

Nora Krug creates a masterpiece

Nora painted herself into one of her illustrations.
I call this my "traveler".  Her dream took shape over the
last 2 days and involved a lot of thought and talent.
I so enjoyed the collaboration.

Abby & Sarah, sisters

My nieces were in town together for Sarah's graduation from Barnard. Sarah's a dancer and sociology graduate heading to Ecuador for a rain forest tea company. Abby's an oboist entering her junior year in college. Together or separate they are the greatest.

"Red Chair"

Just a sampling of students from a good friends graphic art class at the Art Institute of NY.
It was a blast photographing and meeting 17 students in 2 hours. Lots of stories and such passion to create.

Picture seen but not taken

Riding the subway again (an everyday occurrence) I got a seat on the way home. Looking around, I noticed a young girl sitting across from me. She was around 12 yrs old and was reading a very thick novel. Her grandmother was sitting and reading along with her, as the girl rested her head on the side of her grandmother’s arm. She was engrossed in the story and looked so relaxed. It was such a sweet picture. I wanted to take out my iphone, but this was just a scene to capture mentally not digitally.

NY story #1- Timing is everything.

I take the A or C train from the High Street stop in Brooklyn to my studio in Soho.  I was pleased to board a C train which goes direct to our Spring Street stop; otherwise I take the A train and transfer at Canal Street for one stop.  As the train pulled into the Canal Street station, the doors stayed open and an E train, which also stops at Spring Street, pulled in across the platform.  I was in a hurry and debated with myself about which train would leave first.  I looked around and one woman was hanging by the doors, obviously with the same dilemma; others walked across and got on the E train.  I decided to stay put, as did the woman standing nearby.  Of course, the E train left the station first and we were left waiting.  I took this as a sign that “today is not going to be a lucky day."  The woman across from me and I looked at each other and shrugged in recognition that we both had made the wrong choice.  Several minutes later we arrived at our stop.  The woman walked up the stairs ahead of me and then she stooped down and picked up 3 dollar bills on the sidewalk that someone must have dropped.  As I passed her I said, “this is your lucky day after all” and walked away in good cheer.  It’s all in the timing.
